10 Must Have iPhone Photography Apps for Dads

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I'm probably a million words richer by the end of this Chinese New Year! For the past few days, I’ve had a great time capturing hundreds of amazing moments using my iPhone’s photography apps.

I used to carry a compact camera around, but these days, I find it easier and more convenient to use my iPhone's built-in camera. iPhone photography has come a long way with the lots of photography apps. These apps not only enhance your photos but also help you share them on social networks.

I've compiled 10 of the best photography apps that I’ve tried and if I've missed out on any fantastic ones, please feel free to share them at the forum post.

1. Instagram

If you’d like to give your image a visual flair without much editing work, Instagram is a must-have. Just select the effect you’d like and you’ll see your photo transform. But what separates Instagram from others apps is that it's more than just a photo editing app. It’s a photo sharing network with millions of users. You can follow great albums all over the world. Think of it as the Facebook for iPhone photographers.

2. Fotolr Camera FX+

Unlike most photo apps, Fotolr Camera provides professional filters for you to see the effect before you snap the shutter. This app works by combining different lenses and films to create your desired effect. You can buy more lenses and films but I reckon the free version is good enough to get your creative juices flowing!

3. PhotoCurvesFree

If you enjoy manipulating photos manually, PhotoCurvesFree is for you. You can adjust the individual colour, tone and contrast on the curves to create unlimited effects. It works in a similar way to the curve function in Adobe Photoshop CS. This is one powerful app you shouldn’t miss out on.

4. Puri! Lite

Puri! Lite provides a photo sticker booth that you can bring with you where ever you go. I downloaded it for my girls to play with. Judging by how they were able to recreate images in minutes, I can safely say it's fun and easy to use!

5. Montager

As it's name implies, Montager is a simple app to piece together a collage of your favourite photos. The free version has 14 preset montages with 3 photo slots each. What I like about this app is that you can resize, rotate and adjust your photos any way you like.

6. PhotoFunia

This is by far, the best photo app I've seen. It does so much more than just processes photo effects, it also allows you to superimpose them on funny scenes. It's fun and easy to use. One truly does not need special computing skills to manipulate photos anymore! You’ll definitely enjoy seeing yourself in the almost-believable environments. This is a must-have for families!

7. Tiny Planet Photos

Tiny Planet Photos is an iPhone app that transforms your photos to look like tiny planets, otherwise more commonly known as stereographic projections. This is a technique that transforms the image to look like a sphere. While it's very easy to use, it can be hard to achieve the desired 'tiny planet' look. I guess that's where the fun is -- just trying and trying. You can also try this on another person's face for funny and interesting results!

8. Tilt Shift Generator

This simple app allows you to create fake depth-of-field blur which creates a miniature effect. It works best when you have a wide angle photo of a landscape with familiar objects like cars. With the Tilt-shift generator, real cars will look like toy cars instead! The app also helps to isolate the focal point of an image. You can set your blur in a straight line or circular pattern. The effect can be applied to images shot in other apps and the resulting images can be exported in high-resolution.

9. 360° Panaroma

This is another must-have app. It enables you to shoot a panoramic scene extremely quickly, in just 20-30 seconds, for a full 360° view. You have the ability to export them as still images or send them to friends in very cool 360° degree VR galleries.

Note that as interesting as this app is, it should not be used as a standard panoramic shooting app as you can’t really get a nicely straightened and cropped image for output, and the image isn’t suitable for printing. Still, it is a fantastic way to share your immediate surroundings quickly by email or twitter.

10. Camera+

Finally, my favourite photography app - Camera+. This app has been my default tool for a few years and I use it practically for every and any situation. It is jam-packed with a wide array of special effects which would make any photograph look like it’d been professionally edited. Not only that, it comes equipped with a 5 second self-timer and stabilizer which releases the shutter once your hands are steady. This is one app I must have on my iPhone.

There you have it. Thank you for checking out this list of iPhone photography apps. If you do find it useful, share it at the forum. If there are apps that should be included in the list, please feel free to share too!
