MEDIA RELEASE
Dads for Life Blog Contest draws more than 650 heartfelt entries from children celebrating the difference that their dads make in their lives.
“My Dad is the best. He always says, "I'll will do anything for my family". Whenever he comes home from work, I will run up to him and give him a big hug or a sloppy kiss. He will kiss me back and tell me about his day. In my family, my dad is the rescuer, repariman and the family's joker... I believe that there is nothing my dad cannot do.”
– Noor Adilah, Junyuan Primary School
“I’m really grateful for everything as you always wanted the best for me. How you don’t sleep to make sure I have an easy life, how you support me all the way and how you believe in me so much…I don’t need Superman, Batman or Spiderman in my world because you are my hero.”
– Sara Salman Baladram, Crescent Girls’ School

These entries and 676 others make up the repository of heartfelt messages, captured in text, drawings and videos, received from primary and secondary school students across the island as part of the Dads for Life blog contest. Between 1 April 2010 and 21 April 2010, children across the island were invited to express their thoughts about what their fathers meant to them and to submit these blog entries to the Dads for Life blog contest site : www.contest.dadsforlife.sg
“We were absolutely thrilled by the responses. Some of them were especially moving, speaking to the vast sacrifices that fathers make to give their children the best that they deserve. We hope that fathers reading these entries will take time to celebrate their roles and know that they are appreciated and loved by their children,” said a spokesperson from the organisers of the contest, the Fathers Action Network, a workgroup of the National Family Council.
50 entries were shortlisted for public voting by a team of judges. In all, 16,767 votes were received for all entries to determine the top 15 primary school students and 10 secondary school students who win for themselves and their families a Nintendo Wii each. The entry with the highest votes from both the primary and secondary schools categories also win for their schools an IRTLab Future Classroom each. In all, 52 schools were represented in the contest. Winners will receive their prizes at the Awards Presentation to be held on 12 June 2010, in the presence of their fathers and family members.
As the Dads for Life movement prepares to herald Father’s Day in a week’s time, the contest and entries serve as a timely reminder of those who stand to benefit most from active fathering: the children. It follows from previous events of the Dads for Life calendar namely the launch of the Fathers@Schools programme and the Dads for Life Website on 1 April as well as the Inaugural Dads for Life Conference held on the 14 May of this year.
The awards ceremony runs from 9.30am to 12noon at the POD@National Library Building. Attendance for the event is by invitation only. Members of the public can visit www.contest.dadsforlife.sg and dadsforlife.sg for more information on the Dads for Life Blog Contest and the movement.
