Pick of the Week for week 2:

I'll be there for him, for better or worst

Vincent Lee
720043203I often tell married friends around me who didn't want to have kids yet that having a kid is not as easy as buying a can of coke.

I know that because conceiving Xavier took almost two years and heaps of luck. Both my wife and I have given up hope of conceiving naturally and were preparing for more invasive methods when miracle stuck and my wife was pregnant with Xavier.

You could call it first time jitters but right up to the moment when my wife was in labour, I still had thoughts of whether will I be a good father and teach my baby the right stuffs and the right values.

But once I had Xavier in my arms and he looked at me for the first time, all doubts were cast away and the fatherly instinct just kicked in naturally.

Xavier is 20 months now and he has been such a joy to have and I can't imagine life without him anymore. He would show us new actions and dance he learn every day, or say new words (while we try to guess what is he referring too). I'm still learning the ropes on how to be a better father but whatever happens, I will always be there for him, for better or for worst.
